MY EXTRAORDINARY PLAY

THEME IN WRITING...............
I feel that having a strong theme is an important element in writing. I do however think that not all pieces of literature need to have a theme. Many mystery novels do not exert a main idea or expect you to learn anything from them. They are specifically made for entertainment purposes. To me theme helps make the reader think and relate what is happening to their own lives. Themes help to make stories more then just stories, into marvelous and stupendous works of art. This transformation is what grabs the readers attention and helps them to learn from what they have read.

AND THE THEME OF MY PLAY IS...............
My theme is that in order to be happy in life you need to have money. I know that money is not everything but in order to be remotely happy in life you need to have some money. People that have to scrap together money each month to pay off their bills, pay rent and other fees probably wish they had more money so that their life could become easier. I am not saying that everyone needs to become filthy rich but I do think that middle class families are typically happier then families of the lower class. Money in the bank.

AND THE CONFLICT OF MY PLAY IS................
Some conflicts that I could use in my story are a family battling the struggles of poverty. This is a conflict that many families face today. But, my story has a twist; one of the relatives of this family dies and leaves them $1,000,000,000. When the family becomes rich their morals change and they realize that money is not the only thing in life that relates to happiness. Being rich basically didn’t make them any happier then they were when they were dirt poor.

I like your idea! It would make a really interesting play!! It seems a little condradictory though because you say in your theme that people with at least some extra money are happier because they are less stressed and what not, but then at the end of your play you say that the people are just as happy as they were when they were poor.
